Playhouse Theatre Somerset West is casting for *Curl Up & Dye*, a powerful South African dramady featuring a cast of five women.
Audition Details:
- Date: Sunday, 16 March
- Time: 13:00
- Location: The Playhouse Theatre, Somerset West
- Requirements: Prepare a 1-minute South African monologue
- Additional: Script-reading workshop included in the audition process
Characters:
Rolene (20–40 years old)
- White owner of ‘Curl Up and Dye International’, a rundown hair salon
- In an abusive relationship with her husband
Mrs. DuBois (35–65 years old)
- Opinionated and conservative white salon customer
- Represents privilege and clings to old power structures
Miriam (35–65 years old)
- Older, loyal black domestic worker
- Struggles with exploitation and internalized oppression
Charmaine (17–30 years old)
- Young, poor white woman addicted to drugs
- Uses the salon as a safe space to hide out
Dudu (20–35 years old)
- Younger black woman and recently qualified nurse
- Brings gravity and truth to the salon in Act 2
