Artscape Theatre Centre is calling for auditions for the 2017 New Voices Programme to be held from the 10th to 13th July 2017 at Artscape.

The New Voices Programme seeks to give voice to new theatre makers, directors, choreographers, scriptwriters and creative expression. It seeks to restore the dignity and confidence of artists of multiple creative expression. Moreover it seeks to excavate the buried stories in order to reclaim their identity in the mainstream. This year’s programme consists of four productions, Imbewu: The Seed, Once Upon a Nation, Night & Day and So-Called.

Imbewu: The Seed – To be staged from 02 to 07 October 2017

In this family drama, a father is on a mission to get a second son and successor for the family business. The answers to his question lie deep within the family secrets, that will change his life for better or worse and challenge his beliefs.

Four actors are required as follows:
- Sizwe, a 45-year-old Taxi business owner
- Nomzi, a 37-year-old Housewife, married to Sizwe
- Mfuneko, their 21-year-old son
- Duna, a 49-year-old mechanic, best friend of Sizwe’s

All actors auditioning must be available from 11 September to 07 October 2017 and are required to prepare the following:
- A monologue in IsiXhosa for the role of Sizwe
- A monologue in IsiXhosa and a song for the role of Duna
- A monologue in IsiXhosa and a song for the role of Nomzi
- A monologue in IsiXhosa and English for the role of Mfuneko
