CASTING BRIEFS:

ZAHIR
SEEKING: Male, ages 55-65. Multi-racial. Has to be knowledgeable, resourceful, reserved, yet driven.
An elderly Muslim man in search of his son. Zahir comes from humble beginnings, his dad was a factory worker who had to support 5 kids after his mother passed away when he was 7. Zahir himself had three children, two of whom were killed by a mysterious creature that Zahir couldn’t save them from. His wife, heartbroken, abandoned Zahir and their son Aziz, and moved back to the mountainside to be closer to her sisters.

OPHELIA
SEEKING: Female, ages 23 – 28. Caucasian.
Has to be strong, yet innocent and vulnerable. Ophelia was born to a young rebel named Connor, during the early days post-fall. Like many others, her father had lost a limb during the war, but had no access to prosthetics, so he spent the rest of his days on crutches, struggling to move, and having had to leave his post as a result. Ophelia witnessed the heartbreak he had to endure, and swore to help others like him, so she studied to be become a prosthetics engineer, and she was very successful in some cases.

COMMANDER BENNETT
SEEKING: Male, ages 43- 50. Multi-racial.
Has to be cunning, persuasive, but a natural born-leader who inspires many youths to join the Military. Will Bennett is a Commander of The Cape Military Frontier. He’s held this title for 11 years since his predecessor defected to the Rebellion. With the war having taken its toll on him, he’s been searching for a potential successor, and he finds a suitable candidate in Dante, whom he grooms to take over as Commander.

PETER
SEEKING: Male, ages 30- 40. Caucasian.
Has to possess maniacal qualities, a tendency to worship pain. A creative psychopath. Dr. Peter Joost is a mad doctor of sorts. He started off as a quiet young doctor, often mumbling and keeping to himself. In the early days post-fall, a desperate group from a small, fallen town captured him and locked him in a cell for weeks, while they forced him to tend to their sickly. He was trapped there for so long, with small scraps of food and only drops of water, whilst those he tended to all died, even his captors. He was eventually found and released by an unidentified man, and by then, the once-kind doctor had snapped and been driven mad.

AZIZ
SEEKING: Male, ages 7 – 10. Multi-racial. Has to be a soft-spoken kid, afraid, born into an unjust world.
Aziz is the son of Zahir. His mother abandoned him at a young age, and so he’s always felt lost. He’s never known anything outside of this war-torn world, and for a kid to see all that he has seen, means he was robbed of some of his innocence. All that he’s asked for is a new pair of shoes to trek the world in. His father used to tell him tales of the world that existed before, all the precious things that mankind had taken for granted in the years prior, and Aziz always listened, and the last thing he told his father was a promise, a promise that that is a world he’s going to spend the rest of his life daring to rebuild.

DANIEL
SEEKING: Male, ages 32 – 42. Caucasian. Has to be a violent, depressed mess. Blaming the world and everyone else for his troubles, taking it out on his young nephew, Dante. Daniel is Dante’s drug-addicted, rage-consumed uncle that acts as his guardian. He owns a collection of small guns which he keeps around the house in case any bookies show up to collect payments. He’s unemployed, heavily involved in the gambling circuit where he makes and loses most of his money. The only kind thing he has ever done for Dante was buy him an action figure that he wanted for his 5th birthday, but a week later, Daniel sold it to buy drugs. Not much is known of him, whether he lived or died post-fall is currently undocumented.

SENIOR OFFICER/MILITARY MAN/SOLDIER
SEEKING: Males, aged 25- 45. Multi-racial. Have to be neatly groomed and be eligible for combat/military duties.
Members of the Cape Military Frontier. Battle-ready and order-obeying.

ROSIE
SEEKING: Female, ages 8-10. Blonde/brunette. Caucasian. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to be both tough and witty.
Rosie had always wondered about the world beyond her village. She had seen people come and go, always returning worse for wear (if they ever returned at all). Her curiosity always lands her in trouble. She has the maturity of someone far beyond her years. She is shown to be brave and kind as well as an emotional rock to her brother and to Dante, during trying times.

YOUNG BOY
caucasian (afrikaans and english competent)
age 6-9

KOSIE
SEEKING: Male, ages 6-7. Blonde hair/brown hair. Caucasian. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to be soft-spoken, yet expressive. Has to have a world-weary innocence.
Kosie is a little kid who has been through and seen way too much. He’s being raised in a post-apocalyptic nightmare of a world and he doesn’t quite understand the hardships and losses his family has had to face. Between his various jobs and life at home, his father never gets to spend any real time with him, which isolates Kosie. The only person who gives him any real attention is his sister Rosie, who sees and understands his sadness and always seeks to cheer him up.

THE SEER
SEEKING: Female, mid to late-30s. Raven hair. Multi-racial. Has a mysterious and edgy quality. She has a nervous energy about her.
She has had premonitions since she was a little girl. To this day, they frighten her, but she has made quite a nice living out of it (considering the times we are in). She was one of the many people who had lost their families during the apocalypse, but by using her abilities to help others, she has gained countless allies and has built a wall of security around herself even though she doesn’t feel safe at all.

SKOONLIEF
SEEKING: Female, late 20s. Blonde. Caucasian. Must be beautiful, athletic and charismatic. Has a twisted and tortured nature.
Skoonlief has been held captive most of her life. She has become a slave to her captor, showing signs of Stockholm syndrome. She has been broken by her experiences and has been robbed of a real life. She has not known real love, nor does she know what sort of life she could possibly live if she managed to escape.

BLOODBROTHER
SEEKING: Male, late-30s. Multi-racial. Must be tough, well-built and fast. Has to be incredibly intelligent and perceptive. Has to have an intimidating, imposing presence.
Bloodbrother is an expert tracker. He is quick to pick up a trail and baits his targets methodically. He has a past in the military and often resorts to extreme measures to get results. He grew up in the wilderness, in a place others are too scared to venture into. He never stays in the same place more than two days, always on the move, always onto his next target.

SAM
SEEKING: Male, early-40s. Caucasian. Must be tall and athletic. Has to be cunning, desperate and scheming.
Sam grew up in the shadow of his father, a con man. He picked up many of his traits, but was never quite as successful. Sam was resentful and sought to make a name for himself, going down some dark places along the way. After the apocalypse, he was given an opportunity to grow by some very shady people, and by this point he was so desperate to prove himself that he took it without question. He accomplished heinous things, outdoing the misdeeds of his father, and of that Sam was proud.

BEN
SEEKING: Male, aged 10-11. Multi-racial. Must be a big brother-type. Has to be a born leader with a good heart.
Ben is raised in an orphanage. He had an older brother who lived in the orphanage with him, but grew too old and had to leave. Ben has never seen or heard from him again. He acts as a big brother to the other orphans, telling them stories and feeding the babies, assisting where he can. He has a fondness for drawing and painting, and is inspired by the world he sees around him, and even though he is so young, a part of him knows just how messed up the world truly is.

YOUNG MAN
SEEKING: Male, early 20s. Caucasian. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to be young and naïve. Persistent and desperate. He’s generally quite shy, but can be vocal about any sort of displeasures he may have or anything that requires him to stand up for himself. He’s been married since he was 15 years old to the love of his life, Merissa. He’s the son of a preacher, but has his own views on religion. His wife has been captured by the Desert Owls, and as a result, he’s desperate to get her back.

OLD MAN
SEEKING: Male, early 60s to late 60s. Caucasian. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to appear frail and concerned. Very theatrical, in his own way.
The Old Man belongs to the village the girls were taken from. He is concerned about the missing women and the village’s depleting resources, caused by The Desert Owls. He never smiles and often shares horror stories of the days after the ‘Apocalypse’ to young children to frighten them. The Old Man wears an eye-patch over his right eye, purely for effect, as he personally feels it distinguishes him from the others, and he lies about it to everyone, insisting he lost his eye during an encounter with the legendary creature, Brolloks.

GIRL (MERISSA)
SEEKING: Female, early 20s. Caucasian. Has to be beautiful, a damsel in distress. Must be shaken by her experiences and have given up her hopes of being rescued.
Merissa was the apple of everyone’s eyes. She was sweet and courageous, and offered a sense of humour to the people in her village during tough times. She’s been married since she was 15 and now, after 6 years, she was determined to start a family. The night her husband had promised her a child was the night she was kidnapped, and in the days since, it had constantly been playing in her head, as if it were the only thing that gave her hope.

PREACHER
SEEKING: Male, late 50s. Caucasian. Has to be reserved, yet quick to deliver words of wisdom. Must be well-spoken and have a level of conviction.
The Preacher is a true believer, his faith undeterred by the ‘Apocalypse’. He seeks to share his concept of a still-great God to anyone who will listen. He sees the ‘Apocalypse’ as God’s way of punishing Man for its relentless greed.

BARMAN
SEEKING: Male, late 40s- late 50s. Multi-racial. Has to be friendly and knowledgeable.
Alistair Brooks, also known as The Barman, was born in Hogsback, Eastern Cape. He had travelled the world, prior to its downfall, and is a former soldier who was stationed in Drakensberg. He eventually found himself in the ruins of Cape Town, where he got a job as a barman, keeping his head down for once. His bar is situated next to the Cage-fighting circuit, so the fighters often visit and get so wasted, and he’s had to put up with it for years, being too afraid to speak up.

FIGHTER
SEEKING: Male, late 20s- late 30s. Caucasian. Has to be tough and skilled in the ring. Must be tall, big-built and have a short temper.
He is a cage-fighter, working in the circuits of The Underground Trader City. He is feared for his lack of empathy and brute force, not afraid to kill his opponents and stack their bodies in the ring for all to see. He, in particular, stirs up trouble in the area, getting wasted and starting fights outside of a professional environment.

FIGHTER’S FRIEND #1
SEEKING: Male, late 20s. Multi-racial. Has to be slim and lean, to the point of having a skeletal frame.
He is a part of the Cage-fighting circuit in The Underground Trader City. He is loyal to his friends, but is psychotic and quick, able to escape the clutches of his opponents with ease. This gives him an edge and is a top-earner.

FIGHTER’S FRIEND #2
SEEKING: Male, aged 18 – 20. Caucasian. Has to be youthful, yet bulky. Not the most of intelligent of people.
He is a part of the Cage-fighting circuit in The Underground Trader City. He is extremely young for a ‘professional’, but came highly recommended due to his size and the weight of his arm’s swing, which knocks out his opponents in one or two hits. He’s very inexperienced, though, and he flinches easily.

DESERT LEADER
SEEKING: Male, early 40s. Multi-racial. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to be stern, sceptical and a master negotiator.
He is at the top of The Desert Owl Hierarchy. He is always on high alert for potential threats and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. He decides which villages or towns to raid, and is aware of all the suspicious activity going on in the region.

DESERT GUNMAN
SEEKING: Male, mid 30s. Multi-racial. Must speak Afrikaans. Has to be handsome, yet covered in the Owl tattoos. Has to have a dark and brooding, cold-blooded quality to him that’s engaging.
He operates within The Desert Owl hierarchy. He’s a sort of middle-man, but he is efficient with a gun and can take out a whole group before any of them think to react. Initially, he was just a scared kid that got his family to safety during an Owl raid, and he gave himself up in order for them to do so. He spent the last twenty years with the Desert Owls and his experiences have led him to become a shell of his former good self, performing terrible acts in the name of The Owls and their cause.

OLD FRIEND
SEEKING: Male, late 30s – mid 40s. Multi-racial. Has to be deceptively charming, calm and have a piercing gaze.
An old friend of Dante’s from the Cape Military Frontier, who’s since left on unclear terms and has taken up residence in a shady town. He is oddly sentimental about his friendship with Dante, but his values and beliefs have changed radically since their last meeting.

DOCTOR
SEEKING: Male, early 40s – early 50s. Caucasian. Has to be meticulous, skinny and precise. Must appear to be creepy and attracted to the sight of blood.
The Doctor works at one of the Owl campsites. He attends to the ails of both the clan-members and the women and children they capture and bring back with them. He is mysterious, and so is the work he’s been conducting on behalf of The Owls.

BROTHEL GIRL
SEEKING: Female, mid 20s. Multi-racial. Has to be attractive, but a silent-type, a little lost behind the eyes. Must wear cleavage-bearing outfit and be covered in make-up.
She is weary of trouble, although she expects it given her line of work and arms herself with a knife behind her boot, which she only reaches for if it’s a life-anddeath situation. She is generally very quiet and mumbles through her sentences, but she can handle herself in a fight.
