Film Student Project, Cape Town

Men and women 14 - 65 Years old, Western Cape

URGENT

A group of eager third year film students from CityVarsity: School of Media and Creative Arts, are currently working on making their passion project, Citizen, a reality.

Citizen is a 15 minute short film following the lives of a grief-stricken family, dealing with the loss of a loved one.

AUDITIONS:

Depending on restrictions made by the government and also taking everyone's safety into account, their shoot date is currently leaning towards August but it is subject to change. They are on the look out for actors to fill the roles required to tell their story. So they have decided to host digital/online auditions.

HOW IT WOULD WORK:

1. They will have you perform any monologue of your choice on an audition tape, with only a few restrictions with regards to accent, which should be your own native South African accent seeing as they are making locally based film, as well as certain wardrobe requirements such as a certain coloured shirt etc. Further information with regards to this will be made available once initial communication has taken place. These will be due by the 30th of June.

2. Once the audition tape has been sent, They will get back to you about whether you've made it to the next round of auditions. What the second round of auditions will entail is a performance of the script on any platform that you are able to do a live performance on, such as a WhatsApp video call, a Zoom meeting or any other platform which you have to your disposal.

This will be subject to change depending on government regulation, if the restrictions lighten, we'll have auditions at a designated location and the date and time will be provided at a later time.

A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR:

The reason I would like to tell this story is because in my own life, I have seen these circumstances happen to members of my family and despite them having faced these problems and worked through them, there are plenty of times when it doesn’t work out for the family and that is something that I would like to shed a light on. On top of that, being a single parent is a difficult job.

I was raised by a single mother and I’ve seen first-hand the stress that she had to endure to get us to where we are today.

I would like to tell this story and show the struggles which single parents face in today’s society.
