LEAH MARI (23 years old) is a graduate of the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy
(LAMTA) in Cape Town, where she was nominated for a Fleur du Cap Theatre Award for "Most
Promising Student” (2024). The Durban born singer, pianist and musical theatre performer is also
an emerging composer who recorded her first EP in 2016.
A former member of the KZN Youth Choir and recipient of the DALRO ACT Scholarship in 2019,
Leah was one of two winners of the national 'Cabaret and Beyond' songwriting festival in 2021.
This accolade led her to produce and stage her one-act musical, Call Me A Fool, in association
with The Centre for Creative Arts in Qheberha and Durban in 2022, directed by Steven Stead.
Later that same year, she co-produced a second version with LAMTA.
Since being at LAMTA, Leah has been in a number of their productions at Theatre on The Bay and
Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre, namely “Mephisto” (playing ‘Juliet’ 2021), “All Together
Now” (2021), “Come Together” (2022/2023), “The Seagull” (playing ‘Nina’ 2022), “Being Steve”
(2022) and “Cosi” (playing ‘Julie’ 2023).
Leah made her professional debut as the alternate “Maria” in Pieter Toerien and Cape Town
Opera’s production of The Sound of Music (2023/24). She also played “Marta” in the South
African premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Company (2024). Since then, she has made her fil
debut in two feature films, both set to release in 2025.
Leah's latest role was 'Eliza Doolittle' in the South African national tour of "My Fair Lady" - produced by Pieter Toerien.
